Friday Finish: Cutting it Close!

I like deadlines. I really do. I mostly like the whooshing sound they make as they fly right past me.

I think I might have given my sewing buddy heart failure. I cut this one a wee bit too close for comfort, even for me.

When you're making quilts, you sorta forget all the notions that go along with bags and clothes - zippers, buttons, grommets, interfacing . . . And in my small little town, grommets and grommet tools are challenging to come by. Walmart actually saved the day, believe it or not.

I didn't love the pattern. I'm a one step per step kinda gal. Don't give me multiple instructions in a single step. Drives me batty.

Still, it turned out pretty cute, don't ya think?

The fabric is from Micheal Miller's Backyard Bug and Bella Butterfly collections. (As a small aside, I think it's awesome that I can buy fabric from Fabric.com through Amazon. I'm always getting Amazon gift cards as gifts and I don't always want books. And free shipping if I spend $35? Can't beat it. The only downside is you have to buy 1 yard cuts, but I'm kinda okay with that.) Okay, back to the backpack.

A girly girl I do not have. She refused a butterfly backpack. She preferred the fabric with snakes and bugs and critters. This was no surprise, really, as she asked for stuffed snakes and dinosaurs last year for her birthday. She loves raptors and orcas and rattlesnakes. Her nickname is Bumblebee and I buy brown pants for her because she is always in the dirt.


 See, that's one of her snakes in there. One of several.

Love my adventurer! She kinda reminds me of Ellie in "Up" actually.


Adventure is out there!

My sewing buddy, Nicole, made a coordinating messenger bag for her little guy. Seriously, could this bag be any cuter?

Her bag pattern: from Oliver + S Little Things to Sew (which I am totally buying and making messenger bags for my boys)

    These are so great! I love your description of your snake-loving girl. I had one like that, but now she is quite the fashionista. (Good thing, too. She's 18.) Thanks for sharing these bags. They are adorable!

    Both these bags are super! Your daughter sounds like a lot of fun!!(I love Ellie in Up - cried so hard when she died). Thanks for the Amazon tip, I didn't know they sold fabric.

    Oh, what adorable bags! I have one girly-girl and one tom-boy, so I get the best of both worlds. I think the fabrics you chose are a great compromise!
