What the world needs now

Here's a question for ya.

Does the world need another online fabric shop?

Is the market saturated?

Admittedly, I'm pretty content ordering from the Fat Quarter Shop. Their prices are higher, but the service is pretty amazing. I try to wait until my order qualifies me for free shipping, but that threshold is pretty high as well.

I've got a few others that I order from if I can't find it a FQS.

But that's the thing. How many do we really need? What makes them good? What makes them bad?

For me, I want good prices, good selection, a user-friendly website, good service, quick processing, free shipping if possible, and customer rewards (occasional coupons for frequent buyers). I just don't always find this with the online shops I encounter. And the brick-and-mortar shops have sometimes been disastrous.

Thoughts? Comments?

  1. I love the FQS. I have a few etsy shops I order from regularly, some of them have a flat shipping rate of $5.95. I don't mind paying shipping, as I live in a rural area and I can't drive anywhere for that.

  2. I must be weird as I'm not a fan of online shops. I like to fondle the fabric and an on-screen view just doesn't do justice to patterns and textures. We have several shops here in town and quite a few close by...I'm getting a little uneasy because several have closed/are closing/or are considering selling out. And customer service sure isn't what it used to be. Then again, my stash is big enough that I'd probably never have to shop again.

  3. I shop a lot online. I am always looking for the best bang for my buck, but I also shop the brick and motar stores as my hubby and I take short day trips in our area. I rarely buy anythng that isn't on sale.

  4. I agree with you, it gets a little overwhelming to me. I do try to find the the best price but sometimes you don't know what you might be getting. I love the FQS (just placed an order today in fact)they have a great selection, the service is fast and you don't have to worry about your order. I unfortunately do not live where I can run easily to a shop and browse all the fabric.
