WIP Wednesday: Pieced or Solid Borders? Or Not At All?

So here's my law student answer: it depends.

If it's written into the pattern and I like it, I do the border. Pieced, solid. Pieced and solid. I'm cool with it. Like these quilts, both made from Fig Tree patterns:

But then there are times I know I'm just adding a border because I want to make the quilt bigger. Like this one:

And then there are the quilts that a border would just ruin, in my opinion, like these:

Still, I have to put borders on these Simple Life quilts. So I thought I'd make it a little fun and use the panels as corner squares in the borders. Makes it a little better, no?

Whatcha think?

Linking up!  Have a great Wednesday. Come back Friday for my finish (another real finish for me!).

  1. I must admit I tend to be a no borders kind of girl but your simple life quilt is on of those wonderful exceptions for me. I love it when the border adds another dimension to the quilt.

  2. I like it..alot. It is such a sweet quilt that I don't think you can go wrong adding those corner blocks. You have made some awesome quilts!

  3. I like it too! Borders are a toughie for me - when I see others' work and the amount of effort they put into them, I'm like, 'next quilt I make, I'm going to do fancy borders' then I get to that stage and am too tired to do any more work! Like you, sometimes have to add them to make the quilt bigger ...

  4. The cornerstones on the simple life quilts look brilliant. Great idea. I have to say I agree with the law student husband! It depends on the quilt. I do the same as you, look at how big the quilt needs to be, and I agree a border would just spoil some of the tops you have made.
