Blogger's Quilt Festival: Make It Do Quilt

I know, I just showed you this quilt last week. But I thought an entry into the Blogger's Quilt Festival deserved it's own post. If you want to enter the giveaways associated with the pattern launch - hurry over - they end next week!

This is my Make It Do quilt. It combines 3 of my favorite classic quilt blocks: the churn dash block, the economy block, and the shoofly block. Because I can't choose just one!

I have a big long convoluted story associated with this quilt, it's name, and the fabric I chose. But you're here for the pictures. Long story short? Make it do with the best you've got. Don't wait around for some perfect moment to arrive before you take a chance. You might only catch a small wave, and you might end up having the ride of your life. But don't wait. Just jump in!

This was my first time with variegated thread. See? Jump in!

I'm entering this one in the Original Design category. Go visit the festival, and nominate your favorites! I've got plans this next week to check them all out.

I've got two quilts in the festival this year. Check out my Sew Cherry Grannies at this post. And thanks for visiting.

Don't forget to check out the giveaway!

Friday Finish: Hello Sunshine Jacob's Ladder Quilt, and Blogger's Quilt Festival!

A finish for this Friday, for my 4Q FAL list, and for the Blogger's Quilt Festival.
That's a lot of pressure, for one little quilt. Still, here she is:

A quilt for my baby girl!

I think she likes it!

The block is called Jacob's Ladder, and I kinda figured out how to maximize my fat quarter bundle with the pattern. A whole lot of half square triangles and four patches later and I have one big happy quilt.

I quilted it on my sister's Gammill long arm (way too much fun, lemme tell ya!). I did flowers on the diamonds, then a loopy meander everywhere else.

Backed in cozy red birdy (my girly loves bird-birds) flannel and bound in a sherbet-y bias stripe. Because I LOVE a stripey binding. Or gingham. Or polka dots. But this time, stripes for sure.

Linking up with Crazy Mom Quilts and the Blogger's Quilt Festival. Best category for me? Bed quilt, or photography, I suppose.

Finish It Up Friday meets Blogger's Quilt Festival

Amy's Creative Side

You are my sunshine . . .

My only sunshine . . .

You make me happy . . .

When skies are gray . . .

(nice of the weather to cooperate with gray skies!)

I love this quilt. It's big. It's bright. It's warm and cozy.

There's not much of a story here. I've always loved yellow and orange. I love citrus. I love daisies. I love sunflowers, yellow tulips, Lemonheads, orange slices, lemon meringue pie, and canaries (Tweetie bird especially!). That's it. I started collecting the fabric in the throes of a Seattle winter, so I suppose I was counteracting the gray skies.

See, I could break into song again:

I've got sunshine, on a cloudy day . . .

The official stats:
  • Quilt Measurements: 82.5" X 102.5"
  • Special Techniques used: string blocks (is that special?); lots of patience; backed in Minky
  • Quilted by…MOI! I FMQed big flowers in each block, then straight-lined down the white strips
  • Best category: You pick: Favorite Two-color quilt, Favorite bed quilt or Viewer's Choice
Thanks for stopping by. Have fun at the festival - I know I will be!

I'm also crossing this one off the 4Q FAL list and the 100 Day Hustle. And I'm linking up with crazymomquilts and Confessions of a Fabric Addict. Phew. I'm spent.

If you need me, I'll be joining in the Friday Night Sew-In with my Weekender bags and that zig zag quilt. I'm taking it nice and slow with my Weekender bags. As in, I'm waiting on zippers, I need some more interfacing (I thought I bought enough?), and I keep distracting myself with an idea for another one. Yeah. It's bad over here.
